Quality Fruit Trees
Nothing tastes sweeter than fresh fruit picked ripe from fruit trees. And nothing can compare to the extravagant beauty of an orchard in full bloom. Here are some of my personal favourites.
Apples
Very popular, and come in an endless array of varieties. I consider these to be premium quality flavours, especially good for fresh eating.
Pears
Sweet to taste, often quite hardy and easy to grow. Asian Pears Growing in popularity… fast growers.
Plums
Trees may bear blue, purple, red, yellow or green fruit; these taste wonderful when fresh.
Cherries
Deliciously sweet, and extremely popular with people, children, and birds.
Nectarines These have beautiful soft pink blooms, and are hardier than you might think. Peaches Less common in our area, but they do grow here. Apricots Tasty treats, medium-sized sweet fruit, in shades of yellow with red blush. Mulberries Fruiting ornamental trees with multi-coloured berries, sweet when ripe. Crabapples Trees bloom beautifully in vibrant colours; some have edible fruit. Specialty Dwarf trees (heavy bearing small trees), and multi-fruit (with 2, 3, 4 or 5 varieties grafted into one tree), are popular for smaller spaces and for easy picking.
